| Info... |
This is the fansub of the OVA in Soyokaze no Okurimono (The Gentle Wind's Gift), which is an omake box based on Wind -a breath of heart-, a 2002 Bishoujo game. Encoded from the DVD source for best results!
Four months after the resolution of the game, the entire gang is planning a big Christmas party. However, with the reappearance of Hikari, weird events start to happen in Kazune City. How will things turn out?
Note: This show will not make much sense if you have not completed the game. To make things more palatable, please see the side notes on this page and on the Wind -a breath of heart- Op page. Additionally, this show WILL spoil certain arcs of the game. You have been warned. |
| Story... |
Sometime in November 2002, minori revealed on its page that they were going to release an omake supplement to Wind! The one major feature that was going to be contained in the omake box was a DVD with a brand new animation! madgat preordered this omake box three weeks prior to its release in Japan (December 27). Please take the time right now to appreciate what madgat did... he bought it with his own money (about $60 US) just so that we could have a slick raw source. I cant thank him enough, and he refuses to accept any money from me. Unyu~
Once the omake box was in his hot little hands, we eagerly took a view at the OVA. It was... well, a major disappointment. It didn't touch base with the game's main plot at all. The DVD only contained this and HQ versions of the two cinematics from the game; another disappointment since the OVA was only 16 minutes long. However, we were still going to sub it.
We were determined to do a complete translation for this. That meant translating all the names in the credits, too. However, Reikoku hasn't lived in Japan for most of his life, and can't figure out Japanese names from kanji. We went to a native Japanese person, Taiko Feldkamp. She provided translations of all the names in the Ed credits! As for the lyrics of the Op and Ed themes, they were taken directly from the manual of Soyokaze no Okurimono.
aceleader (he claims he's independent, but works for numerous groups like Triad, B-F, and Chizeto) offered his l33t skills into making a disclaimer... uh, intro splash for our little project. It looked sweet, so we're grateful for having his services. |

| This was a pretty good job, but it's not jaw-dropping. There were also a bunch of minor mistakes which are listed here:
- Frame 20755 (time 14:25.65) is corrupt. The video still plays fine, though.
- Kazeoto should be Kazune City. Big oops. Oneday should be One Day.
- Minor translation oopsies: 1. The line This picture... should really be This photograph... (the latter is a more accurate translation), but we didn't catch this on the final QC. / 2. ED credits: Storyboards should be Screenplay, Advance Production should be Post-Production, Asai Adou should be a Production Manager, and sata should be the Director. Yasuo should be Yasuko.
- Good: Since today... is the night where everybody in the city dreams.
Better: Since tonight... is the night where everybody in the city dreams.
Which one did we use? Not the better one. =(
- There's actually a reason why there's a long pause after the intro splash. It wasnt intended at all. I think this chat explains it best ...

| Side notes... |
- Here's a quick rundown on all the jokes and inside info you will encounter in this show. This will certainly spoil some parts of the game, so watch out...
- Minamo can't cook if her life depended on it.
- Makoto whacks his sister Hinata on the head whenever she says stupid things. This happens quite a bit.
- Kasumi and Tsutomu are Makoto's classroom buddies.
- Wakaba can heal people. Of course, this is powered by the mysterious aura which came back to Kazune City.
- Nozomi is the kendo girl. You know, think Aoyama Makoto from Love Hina, but more level-headed and not as scary.
- Wakaba and Nozomi work at the cafe called One Day.
- Hikari is the guardian of Kazune City who disappeared at the end of the game (how she disappears depends on the endgame).
- In one scene, there is a screenshot on a TV for minori's third game, Haru No Ashioto (The Footsteps of Spring). It has since been released, and we fansubbed the demo! Look at the screenshots below.
- If you wanted to see more of Makoto Shinkai's fabulous work in action, you'll be a bit disappointed. He only did the Op.
- What else is in Soyokaze No Okurimono? A mini-scenario, tons of wallpapers, full length CD tracks of Brand New Morning and Cumulus, and a sound scheme. However, the mini-scenario's art is drawn by a different person, and there is much more ero compared to Wind -a breath of heart-. Now you can see why it's an omake box...
- If you need to know, the music in the Intro Splash is simply a piano rendition of Wind.
- The line doubling in the Op was actually in the DVD media itself. If it made Minamo less sexy, sowwy! No amount of encoding magic can fix it. =(
- This file was encoded in 23.976fps (NTSC Film). However, the DVD source was very peculiar.
- The Op and Ed operated at 29.97fps, while the main episode was 23.976fps. This meant that Landcaster needed to either to one of four things ... 1) Make the Op and Ed rougher but the main ep smoother, 2) Make the Op and Ed smoother but the main ep rougher, 3) Up the framerate to 119.88 fps and make both parts smooth, but bloating the filesize, or 4) Applying lots of wacky filters, compromising image quality. Landcaster decided to do #1, because the main ep is much more important than the Op or Ed. Besides, you dont notice the roughness much in the Op (However, the Ed credits are jerky because of this). If this doesnt make much sense, dont worry about it.

I decided to try directional subtitles. They would eventually be the norm for our fansubs. |
|
|
Subliminal advertising. Will YOU get Haru no Ashioto? |
|

Hinata, Wakaba, and Nozomi looking concerned. |

The credits were more of a pain than what it was worth. But at least it worked. |
