Info...

This is episode 1 of 3 of the Wind -a breath of heart- KSS OVA which was released in Japan during the last week of June 2004. While some concepts remain, the KSS OVA presents an alternative storyline that is not part of the original game. If you want to know what the game's story is like, you can watch the low-budget TV adaptation.

My personal opinion? Watch the KSS OVA first if you don't know anything about Wind. It's more newbie-friendly. Besides, Minamo actually looks decent in this one.

Encoded from the actual DVD source for best results!

Story...

We've had this OVA series on our radar from the day we learned about it. It's short, unknown, and it was Wind-related. madgat, the biggest minori (and Nekoneko Soft) fanboy in the world, pre-ordered the DVD right away. He received it a week after it was released in Japan.

After painfully timing it in my stinky abode, I went over to the house of NamaeX (someone who QCs from time to time) to typeset most of this. His place had central air conditioning which was the main reason why I went there. He's also a pretty nice guy, giving me free instant noodles whenever I needed a pick-me-up. The AC made me work at a torrid pace... well, torrid compared to how fast I normally do these things. Our standard practice of directional subs was applied to this episode.

Reikoku had a pretty easy time with the TL of because it didn't have that many lines. gp32 and zalas caught some mistaeks during the QC process. One glaring error we caught was a line that originally involved lunches but was actually about school traditions. This had to be re-encoded twice because Landcaster had reduced the resolution by mistake, causing everything to become blurry (especially the credit text). We considered just using the filtered raw from Winny (since it looked better than the DVD source for some reason), but we ended up doing a bunch of experiments such as trying out different filters. The end result was acceptable but was still a bit too soft for my tastes. Oh well... we can fix that in episode 2.

Qualitative rating - 9

The final encode was too soft, and there is one karaoke mistake. Nevertheless, this represents some of NNL's best work. I hope episode 2 is good enough to score a 10.
